Group Instructor (GI) (Trainee Instructor)

 

Learn on the job, get the experience you need plus you work towards NGB qualifications.

 

This role has been designed as a starting position within the Centre from which suitable employees can progress to a full-time instructional role and is often combined with a Modern Apprenticeship. The role is a mixture of instructional work and house team work.

 

Instructional role Each GI is assigned to a group of up to 8 clients for the entire length of the client’s stay and are responsible for the pastoral care of their own group throughout the course. During an activity where the GI has achieved the NGB instructional qualification or relevant in-centre training the GI will take sole charge of the group. During activities where the appropriate qualification/training has not yet been achieved, the GI will work as an assistant to the qualified instructor.

House team role Duties include: cleaning, laundry and serving of food. 

There are no minimum qualifications required but we do require experience in a broad range of activities and a willingness to work hard alongside qualified instructors in order to progress.

 

The role also requires GIs to participate fully in the life and ministry of the Centre.

Catering team

Food preparation for Centre guests and staff team (maximum of approx 50). Meals to be prepared daily are a 3 course evening meal and baking for supper. Guests make up packed lunches at breakfast time, from ingredients provided by the cook.

 

During the 2 days off per week and free afternoons there will be the opportunity to participate in activities offered by the Centre.

 

The role requires the Cook to participate fully in the life and ministry of the Centre and is often combined with the opportunity to do some weeks in the role of Group Instructor.

Senior Instructor (SI)

 

We currently have a vacancy in the role of SI. Duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Assist with the management our team of instructors, group instructors (GI) and freelance instructors on a daily and weekly basis.

  2. Instruct activity sessions with groups.

  3. Lead interface with clients for activities on a daily basis.

  4. Assist with management of weekly kit maintenance checks & general maintenance by instructors.

  5. To participate fully in the life and ministry of the Centre.

 
Person specification:
  1. NGB coaching awards (at level 2) in three of the following areas: skiing, paddle sports, dinghy sailing, mountain leadership, mountain biking & climbing
  2. 3+ years of instructing outdoor activities
  3. Experience of training / mentoring other instructors

Maintenance worker

Maintenance includes: work on the Centre buildings, grounds, vehicles and activity equipment. The maintenance worker will ideally have the skills required to supervise the staff team on maintenance projects during periods when there are no guests resident in the Centre.

 

During the 2 days off per week there will be the opportunity to participate in activities offered by the Centre.

The role also requires the maintenance worker to particpate fully in the life and ministry of the Centre.
